At first, I really did not know what all those features were for but thanks to the Internet, I have come to understand some of them. This features are closely linked to the Website Creation section especially Web hosting. Furthermore, you can use these features during the selection of a web host. Some of these features are to be found in the Control Panel that you may be given by your web host. These features are:
- POP3 Accounts: This feature allows to have multiple email addresses for your website. You can read your email using an email software such as Microsoft Outlook. POP stands for Post Office Protocol.
- Autoresponder: If you want to send an automated email out to your clients, this is the feature that is used. This feature requires a specified email address.
- Email Forwarding: This allows your emails to be sent to an email address that you specify. This is highly beneficial if you have many email addresses but you do not want to visit all of them so as to read your mail.
- Catch All Email Address: This feature ensures that any email that is sent to your domain name is sent to an email address that you specify, if the sender sends the email to a non-existing domain name.
- Mailing Lists: This feature is used when one needs to send many messages frequently to many people. Your control panel can help you in setting up one for your site.
- Analysis & Log files: These include:
- Latest Visitors: This will show you the latest visitors to your site i.e. their number.
- Bandwidth: This will show your site's bandwidth usage on a monthly basis, and the total usage.
- Raw Access Log files: This will give you information on the number of requests to your site. This information is not presented in the form of graphs and charts.
- Error Logs:This feature gives you information on the number of errors generated while client's are accessing your site. It can be used to know what links are broken and non-existent files.
- Parked Domains: These are other domain names, that you have registered, that are pointing to your main domain name. These domain names have different extensions i.e they can have".net", ".org", while your main domain name has the ".com" extension. This will ensure that anyone typing in your domain name with these other extensions will be directed to your main site.
- Frontpage Extensions: This feature is used in creating your web pages without you engaging in any programming. It can also allow you to quickly create and upload your web pages without the help of an FTP Client software.
